We played vatlous activities and my cass had a whale of atime! There were activities to help us ‘get to know each other, work with one another and bulld our class spirit | must, ‘admit that the idea of starting school n anew environment was daunting. Term 1, Week 5 (On the 31st of January; Regent Secondary School had our Chinese New Year celebration. This was an extremely joyous occasion. We participated in vatious interactive level activities such as Chinese Paper Cutting Chinese Lanter Making, Chinese Knot Tying and Chinese Shadow Puppetry that our school had planned and organized for us. For diferent levels there were different activities for students to engage themselves in For the Sec 3 students such as myself, we made a lantern With just paper and tape. To start off, we had to cut the coloured paper that was ven tous in elthera cicle ora heart. The challenging part was having to cut about 15 pieces of paper into the same shape and size. Moreover, we were not able to cut all ofthe papers at once therefore we had to draw the exact sizeof the shape and cut it out perfectly to make 1a perfect lantern. Of course | was notable to keep all of my pape hearts the same size, sol just tried my best to cutoff the excess paper that stuck ‘out once | placed all my paper heartsin a stack Despite how tedious the process was, after being able to get the gist of piecing the lantern together, was proud ofthe product that came out from my hard work ‘After the lantern making, we watched several amazing Chinese New Year performances from various CCAS. Inthe same zoom programme, we had a schoolwide bingo game. By Joslyn Chong (3-Pride) a x NR) : Secondary 1 Cohort Camp Term 2, Week 8 By Angel Lim (1 Pride) 6 ‘The Sec 1 Cohort Camp (12=14 May) atthe Changi Coastal Adventure Centre was one ofthe most fun and much anticipated programmes | was looking forward to. Over the three days, we ‘experienced many memorable and exciting activities together such as kayaking, and outdoor ‘ooking, Looking back upon my camp experience | realised how meaningful t was because of the 3 important values that | earnt from the camp: Gratitude, Determination and Empathy. During the camp, | went on a Coastal Exploration hike along East Coast Park. Although the weather was very hot and sunny, melting me bit by bit, | persisted as | was looking forward to enjoying myself at the beach, My group members and | had the opportunity to play on the beach, locating ‘what we thought were“crab-barrows” or tiny holes in the sand that were dug by the crabs! A few boys found a strange-looking crab which our Outdoor Adventure Educators (OAE) told us that it was a horse-shoe crab. My friends and | also saw two of them on the beach; one of which was bigger than the other, and it seemed like they were a parent and child. Both crabs were being flipped on their backs by the crashing waves on the beach. When we saw what was happening to these crabs, we empathized with the crabs because each time they tied to stim into the sea, the ‘waves kept crashing into them and tossing them upside-down. We asked our OAES to help the Cabs by guiding them through the waves and back Into the sea, We learnt that the horse-shoe Crabs are poisonous and considered a protected species in Singapore Seeing the crabs make their way back into the sea against the crashing waves, I realized that they Aisplayed great determination. Despite being flipped over countess times, they had to keep ‘moving forward against the odds because they had to survive This chance encounter with the horse-shoe crabs during the Coastal Exploration was something ‘that was thankful and grateful for because it showed me the true meaning of determination. That ‘was the most memorable and meaningful day of the Sec 1 Cohort Camp for me.
